Week One: But First, We Must Fight!

Fight! We must fight – in prayer. The enemy wants nothing more than to paralyze us with fear when it comes to expecting to bear fruit from our wombs. But, our Redeemer says FIGHT! When Jesus died on the cross for us, He bore our sins and redeemed our future in Him. This includes the future children that will be birthed by us.

I remember sitting in the hospital room holding the still body of my daughter born that day with no heartbeat. Slyly the enemy whispered, “your womb will never bear fruit.” Years prior, I endured an ectopic pregnancy and for a moment, I believed his lie. But God reminded me that there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus! God began to minister to me through the words of Romans 8, which begins with His reminder that echoed in my spirit to combat the lie of the enemy.

Meditating on Romans 8 gave me hope. It taught me that the suffering felt from losing a child did not define my future potential to become a mother. I learned in that single chapter, that being a child of God and an heir with Christ meant that suffering was inevitable. But, I also learned that suffering is temporary. Most importantly, I began to understand that my prayers – whether in groans, my prayer language or words I could understand – would be the vehicle to experience purpose through my pain and see the goodness of God up close and personal.

The last two verses of Romans 8 says the following:

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God LOVES us. He loves us! It’s unconditional. God told His creation to be fruitful and multiply. Sin entered and consequently women were burdened with painful childbirths, but the blood Jesus shed on the cross redeemed even the Original Sin and curse put on God’s daughters. His love redeemed our childbirth experiences, and more importantly allows our wombs to be fruitful! One could even argue that it’s the first blessing bestowed upon His children. His word says, “God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it…’” (Genesis 1:28a, emphasis added).

Let’s receive our blessing of motherhood, and allow God to take back what the enemy has stolen! Whether you’ve experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, early infant death, or abortion, God has blessed you to bear fruit! If you’re in the process of trying to conceive and have experienced difficulty in doing so, God has blessed you to bear fruit, and you will! If you’re pregnant now, trust God and know that your child will live!

We will birth a generation that will live for Christ. But first, we must fight!

1. What lies have the enemy attacked you with in your journey to becoming a mother? What truth from God can you replace those lies with?
2. Have you ever doubted your ability to fight in prayer? If so, what do you think is holding you back?
3. If you’re completely honest with yourself, do you truly believe that your womb will bear fruit? If not, take a moment to ask God to help increase your faith and remove your unbelief.
