Week Nine: Conquering Fear

Fear is one of those emotions that evoke a number of complementary emotions such as distrust, uncertainty, anxiety and more. I know we’ve all heard the acronym that fear really means False Evidence Appearing Real…but what about the times when fear is present in the form of its complement as referenced above? Aren’t there times when we’ve all felt distrust, uncertainty or anxiety – and it felt very real?

In pregnancy, sometimes these emotions can be amplified… We don’t announce we’re pregnant until we reach our second trimester because the first trimester is when most women experience child loss. We count kicks later on in pregnancy just to make sure our babies are ok. We hold our breath as our OBs check our littles ones’ heart beats in our wombs with the doppler. Emotions arise, and we have to put them back in their place!

God says that perfect love casts out all fear. In order to overcome destructive thoughts and emotions, we have to tap into His perfect love. When I feel myself allowing thoughts to go down dangerous paths, I start speaking the Word of God over myself. If I feel fearful, I shout, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind!” Then, I remind myself what that means:

  • God has also given me authority and power to speak life over myself and my womb. His Word is my weapon against lost hope and I will use it to encourage myself!

  • God has given me His love. His perfect love, so I have no need to fear because He is with me!

  • I have a sound mind and do not have to give into thoughts that are not from God. I will focus my thoughts on God and his promises!

I have to admit, when I first started declaring the Word over myself, I felt weird. But over time, I felt power rise up within me reminding me that I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. He’s put a fight in me to declare life over my womb, and I’m going to do just that: FIGHT!

Reflection:

  1. Do you feel like you still have the strength to fight in prayer? If not, how can you use the Word of God to build up your faith?
  2. Have you ever been paralyzed by fear? Allow God to show you how He fought for you when you didn’t have the energy to fight for yourself.

Scriptures for Meditation and Memorization:

1 John 4:18 NKJV

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Romans 8:37 NKJV

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
