set the stage

I woke up with the worst attitude this morning. Then, all kinds of stuff started going awry. The last straw was when the pump at the gas station started acting up. Getting frustrated, I grabbed my purse and stormed into the station to pay at the counter.

As I entered, the attendant at the counter was laughing. So I snapped, “what are you laughing at?!” (Clearly, nothing was funny to me).

He immediately replied, “you.”

“Excuse me?!” I replied.

He repeated, “I’m laughing at you and the way you’re storming in here all determined and mad.”

Then it hit me: embarrassment. I had made a fool of myself and allowed a bad attitude to take over my entire countenance.

This, my friends, is an example of what happens to me when I don’t pray in the morning. Rather than setting the tone of my day in prayer, I react to it in anger. I guess what my pastor said was right….

The mind is a battlefield and I may have been defeated in the morning, but I thank God for man who laughed in my face at my foolishness. It made me reflect on how precious God’s peace truly is and how important it is for us to allow Him to impart His peace to us.

As soon as I got in my car, I started proclaiming, “rejoice in The Lord always and again I say REJOICE!” The first few times I didn’t believe it, but by the time I reached my destination, God’s word renewed me and reminded me that no circumstance is greater than Him!
